Cows and calves make a top of $2350 on AuctionsPlus

This top price went to two lines of Landfall Angus blood cows and calves from vendor ‘Bruce Scott and Son’ Hagley, TAS.

These 3 to 9 year old cows have Landfall calves at foot and have been joined back to a Landfall bull. On the mainland, a line of 8 year old angus cows from ‘Wallandoon Pty Ltd’ Wallendbeen, NSW,  sold for $1,675.

Another line of 47, 4 year old Poll Hereford cows and calves from ‘Coolabah’ Young, NSW sold for $1,625.

Commercial cattle numbers were down this week to total 7,058 with a national clearance rate of 50% down 2% from last week.

Steers and unjoined heifers were the best represented stock categories, making up 33% and 35% of listings respectively.

Joined females made up 19% or 1,353 head, while Cows with calves at foot and mixed sex lines made up 6% each.

At auction, Queensland listings experienced a 38% clearance rate, while New South Wales found a healthier 54% clearance. Things were looking brighter in Victoria and South Australia, with 72% and 82% clearance reported respectively.

Across the Bass Strait competition was hot, with the TAS cattle sale obtaining a 100% clearance, all lots remain on the island.

PTIC heifers reached a top of $1,700 and found a $1,392 average this week. This top price went to a line of Angus/Friesian heifers who have been joined to an Old Kentucky Blonde D’aquitaine bull.

The vendor, ‘Londrigan’ Wangaratta, VIC also had another line joined to the same bull that sold for $1,660.  PTIC Cows sold to a $1,304 average and reached a top of $1,655 for a line of 72 Angus and Angus cross cows. These 3 to 4 year old girls hailing from ‘Wyaga’ Goondiwindi, QLD have an Angus bun in the oven.
