Yamburgan Shorthorns clears bulls to top of $42,000

Yamburgan-shorthornsYamburgan Shorthorns, Futurity Shorthorns and Royalla Shorthorns each conducted their annual on-property bull sales, with 190 Shorthorn sires selling to a top of $42,000 and an excellent average of $9,489.

Yamburgan Shorthorns started the sales week, offering 103 Shorthorn sires at their Narrabri, NSW property. Buyers from 5 states pushed the bidding along until lot 21, when Yamburgan Anzac L278 was knocked down after spirited bidding for the sales top price of $42,000.

Anzac L278, a polled son of Yamburgan Ossie E65 and from the Yamburgan Mayflower F82 dam, was in the top 1% of Shorthorn Beef 2015 drop calves for Rib & Rump Fat and all Indexes, top 5% for Scrotal Size, Days to Calving and IMF%, top 10% for Gestation Length, EMA and Carcass Weight, top 15% for Calving Ease Direct and 600 Day Weight and top 20% for Birthweight, 400 Day Weight and Milk.

Purchasers of Yamburgan Anzac L278 were Futurity Shorthorns, Kenebri, NSW.

Yamburgan Zeus L173, by ABS Australia super sire Yamburgan Zeus H140 from the Yamburgan Cloudy J245 dam, also sold for $28,000 to Lester Job, Moombi Shorthorns, Cumnock. The 25-month-old bull weighed 898kg, had a scrotal circumference of 42cm. Zeus L173 was in the top 1% of Shorthorn Beef for Days to Calving, top 5% for Gestation Length, all growth traits, Scrotal size and EMA, top 20% for Rib fat, and top 25% for IMF%.

John and Carol and Stuart and Annabelle Brownlie, “Deepwater”, Meandarra, Qld, were the volume buyers, paying to a top of $23,000 with their draft averaging $145,000.

Essex Grazing, “Essex”, Middlemount, Qld, also bought six bulls for a top of $14,000 and average of $11,000.

In total of the 103 Shorthorn sires offered by Yamburgan Shorthorns, 102 sold for an overall average of $10,911; with the 79 two-year-old bulls averaging $11,924 and 23 yearling bulls topping at $16,000 and averaging $7434.
