Thousand Guineas has again taken the title in the annual Norman Hotel “You be the Judge” competition.
The win sees the Shorthorn breed go back to back after taking the title last year. The Norman Hotel is one of Brisbanes best known steakhouses and describes itself as Brisbanes “worst vegetarian restaurant.”
The Norman Hotels You be the Judge competition runs through October each year, with diners given the chance to select a steak from 4 different breeds and then rate their choice on industry standard measures which include, tenderness, juiciness, flavour and overall liking.
The 128 year old Norman Hotel is an iconic establishment in the Brisbane dining scene, with one time seating capacity of up to 800 head. The Norman regularly features top grain and grass fed beef brands and runs successful promotions year round, attracting thousands of passionate beef eaters each month to the historic venue.
The win adds to a stellar run for the JBS Australia Thousand Guineas Shorthorn brand and the Shorthorn breed in 2017 after Thousand Guineas won a Bronze medal in the RQFWS awards and a Silver medal in the Sydney Royal fine Food Awards. Perhaps the brands greatest win this year though, was the Regatta Hotels Big Beef Off competition, which saw 170 consumers participate in a blind taste testing. Thousand Guineas took the title from 4 other leading Australian beef brands, in a ringing endorsement from consumers.
The Shorthorn breed has also dominated in carcass competitions this year, including going back to back in the prestigious Borthwick Trophy, scooping the pool across the export category of the RAS Beef Challenge, claiming the Champion award in the export carcass competition at the Adelaide Royal and top honours in the Southern Grassfed Classic, Australia’s largest grass fed beef competition.
