Young breeders SIL to White Suffolks top at $265

Merino ewes made up the largest portion of the yarding’s with 40% or 36,969 head.

Merino ewe lamb numbers were down last week on AuctionsPlus alongside prices which also fell, topping at $98.50.

This top price went to account ‘Lakemere Pastoral Co’ Bourke, NSW for their line of 540, 8 to 10 month old Mullengudgery blood ewes with a 2” skin.

Hogget prices remained firm on last week, averaging $141 and topping at $164.

This top price went to a line of 126 16 to 17 month old ewes with a 3” jacket out of Woodpark blood herd from “Amaroo” Nyngan, NSW.

Sheep numbers lifted this week to a total of 98,423 head. Merino ewes made up the largest portion of the yarding’s with 40% or 36,969 head.

A large boost in lamb numbers also contributed to this weeks larger yarding, while crossbred lambs drew the most buyer competition at auction.

Hogget prices remained firm on last week, averaging $141 and topping at $164. This top price went to a line of 126 16 to 17 month old ewes with a 3” jacket out of Woodpark blood herd from “Amaroo” Nyngan, NSW.

Overall, unjoined Merino breeders averaged $116, while joined breeders averaged $172.  Young breeders sold to a top of $265 and averaged $159, while proven breeders topped at $202 and averaged $136.

Young breeders were topped by a line of 238 Firgrove blood 2 to 3 years old ewes, weighing 77 kgs with a 2” skin and scanned in lamb to White Suffolk rams, who were exhibited by account ‘P & S Hernon’ Bungalally, VIC.

Proven breeders were topped by account ‘Jindalee trading’ Mundulla, SA for a line for 179, 4 to 5 year old ewes, with a 2” skin, who have been scanned in lamb to White Suffolk rams.

Also notable this week was a line of 280 Merino ewes and lambs hailing from ‘Tollygunge’ Mathoura, NSW who sold for $270.

The lambs are sired by Border Leicester rams, and ewes have been running back with Border Leicester rams.

Merino wether lamb prices lifted slightly this week, averaging $93 and selling between $67 and $124.50. This top price went to a line of 420 Cottage Park blood, 4 to 5 month old unshorn wethers weighing in at 40 kgs from account ‘Llangrove’ Cooma, NSW. Merino hoggets sold to $103 this week, while grown wethers sold to $100.

First cross ewe lambs sold exceptionally well this week, averaging $162 and selling to a $221.50 top. This top went to a line of 8 to 9 month old, 53 kg ewes from account ‘Yirdeen’ Lockhart, NSW.

Grown first cross ewes averaged $195 and sold to a $251 top. This top went a line 510, 3 year old Merino/Border Leicester ewes, scanned in lamb to White Suffolk from account ‘Jindalee trading’ who also had a top price line of Merino ewes mentioned earlier.

Crossbred lamb highlights included a line of Poll Dorset/Composite mixed sex lambs, weighing 40kgs from ‘Poligolet Holdings’ Derrinallum, VIC that sold for $126.50.

While a line of 40kg first cross wethers from “Wahroonga” Gunnedah, NSW for $108. A lighter line of 1000 2nd cross Poll Dorset mixed sexes, weighing 33kgs from account ‘Top of the Hill’ Berridale, NSW sold for $116. While a line of 690 first cross wethers weighing 30kg from ‘Binnowee’ Euchareena, NSW sold for $95.
