Top priced bull at $38,000 was Lot 2
Sprys Shorthorns have defied the seasonal conditions to post one of the leading bull sale averages this Autumn.
The 54 years of Breeding Sale, held last Friday at “Ardlui” Wagga Wagga, saw 39 Shorthorn sires sell from 42 offered for a 93% clearance with an outstanding average of $9,411. 4 Shorthorn females sold in a total clearance for an average of $9,500 and 4 embryo packages sold to average $1,215 per embryo.
Top priced bull at $38,000 was Lot 2. Sprys Boomtime M222, selling to AA & LM Bennett, “Dromore” Station, Wilcannia. The Homozygous polled, red 20 month old ET son of imported sire Muridale Thermal Energy 15A and from the Sprys Patents Cherry J90 donor, captured plenty of bidding attention as a high performance outcross sire.
Lot 1, Sprys Heritage M213, was the next best priced sire, selling to Outback Shorthorns, Culcairn for $30,000. Sprys Heritage M213, a homozygous polled ET son of $57,500 The Grove Gigabytes J0837 and from the donor Sprys IMF’S Judith J100 donor, offered a complete package of medium maturity and performance.
He had been used heavily in the Sprys herd in the Spring matings. Outback Shorthorns also invested in Lot 4, Sprys Primroses Nostalgia M40 a Royalla Nostalgia son paying $24,000. Outback Shorthorns Principal, Greg Schuller, said that “Outback are extremely pleased to partner with ABS Australia to market semen on both of these sires.”
Whilst there was extensive stud interest in the Sprys offering though, commercial buyers relished the opportunity with volume buyers including Highlander Grazing, Ben Lomond, NSW who purchased 4 Shorthorn sires and DH Prosser and Son, Naracoorte, SA, who took home a draft of 3 Shorthorn bulls. Despite the heated competition on the day, 14 Shorthorn sires found new selling between $4,000 – $6,000 each.
Top priced female was lot 70, Sprys Rembrandts Lavender N112, a daughter of the $42,000 Royalla Rembrandt K413 and from the Sprys Aces Lavender K113 donor dam. With a strong pedigree and excellent performance, Sprys Rembrandts Lavender N112 was knocked down to Spencer Family Shorthorns, Yuroke.
Top priced embryo package at $1400 each, for 3 embryos from legendary donor The Grove Primrose A742 and sired by The Grove Gigabytes were purchased by Ian & Jill Coghlan, Eurimbla Shorthorns, Gerogery.
