Along with the Pasture Genetics sponsored innovation prize, a second award will be on offer for farmers who have demonstrated innovation in grain practices.
A new award to recognise innovation in farming practices will be up for grabs at this year’s Royal Adelaide Show – the first time in the Show’s 178-year history.
The Pasture Genetics National Fodder Innovation Award aims to recognise Australian growers who have redeveloped their farming practices to adapt to change, increase production and/or demonstrate sustainability.
The award is open to anyone who operates a farming business in Australia, with the winner to receive Pasture Genetics proprietary seed product to the value of $3,000 and a one-on-one on-farm agronomic consultation.
Pasture Genetics Research and Technical Services Manager Tom Damin said that Pasture Genetics is committed to researching, selecting, marketing and distributing the most innovative and productive forage seed technology.
“It is a natural fit for Pasture Genetics to partner with the Royal Adelaide Show to inaugurate the Pasture Genetics National Fodder Innovation Award.
“As a family-founded and operated company built on Australian innovation, leadership and bold future thinking, we want to reward Australian farmers who are introducing new ideas and technologies, that can benefit not only their operations but the wider industry,” Tom said.
All entries will be assessed by an independent industry representative, representatives from the RA&HS Grains & Fodder Committee, and Pasture Genetics.
Along with the Pasture Genetics sponsored innovation prize, a second award will be on offer for farmers who have demonstrated innovation in grain practices.
RA&HS Grain and Fodder Committee Deputy Chair Peter Smith said the awards highlight the relevance of the Royal Adelaide Show’s National Grain and Fodder competition.
“These Innovation Awards are an important recognition of young farmers who are developing progressive and sustainable improvement on their farms,” Peter said.
Competition information can be found at www.theshow.com.au/grains-fodder.
Entries close at 5 pm ACST on Friday, July 27, 2018.
Along with the innovation award, Pasture Genetics offers other accolades at the Royal Adelaide Show. The first is an Agribusiness Leaders Scholarship for Excellence for a first-year agricultural science student at the University of Adelaide, as well as prizes for the best irrigated and dryland baled lucerne hay.
