Ewe hoggets sold between $110 and $200, to average $160. Merino breeders were short in supply and mixed in quality.
From Tamworth, NSW, a line of 140 Station Mated ewes aged 2-5 years, with a 70mm skin and weighing an average of 37kg, returned $86. From Hay, NSW, scanned empty Poll Merino ewes aged 2-3 years, with a 45mm skin sold for $181.
A line of 835 scanned in lamb ewes, aged 5-6 years from Mungindi, NSW, with a 10mm skin sold for $110. While, 430 ewes with 460 lambs at foot (by White Suffolk rams & avg 22kg) from Nevertire sold for $199.
Merino wether lambs averaged $76 and sold between $65 and $90, including a line of 1700 from Quilpie, QLD, weighing 30kg with a 10mm skin, which returned $80.
Wether hoggets sold between $63 and $138 to average $92. A line of 150 head from Porcupine Ridge, VIC weighing 45kg with a 60mm skin recorded the top price.
Rising three year old wethers from Tamworth weighing 50kg LWT/18kg CWT with an 80mm skin attracted bids from processors and restockers, returning $161 – bolstered by market strength in both wool and mutton, they have solid rebate on their backs and little work required to finish for a good return at slaughter.
First cross ewe lambs sold between $157 and $223, to average $209. A line of 836 from Trangie, NSW were offered over 4 lots, weighing 57kg and recorded the top price.
While 380 ewe lambs from Glenorchy, VIC, SIL to White Suffolk rams and weighing 54kg sold for $240. Scanned in lamb ewe hoggets sold to a top price of $295 while young breeders were sought after and topped at $252.
Numbers in other breeds were strong and the vast majority offered were scanned in lamb articles. A total of 2100 Composite ewes were offered out of Henty, NSW where a line of 1300 breeders aged 5 to 9 years and SIL to Composite rams, averaged $146. Dohne/Merino breeders aged 7 to 8 years and SIL to Border Leicester rams, from Walcha, NSW sold for an average of $85.
Numbers out of Tasmania more than doubled to total 1254. A line of 500 mixed sex export lambs from Bothwell, weighing 25kg CWT returned $180 or 726c/kg dressed (inc. skin value), sold to a local processor. From North Bruny, 174 Merino ewes, 3 to 5 years and SIL to White Suffolk rams sold for $100.
Almost 3500 New Season suckers were offered for complete clearance. 2018 drop lambs weighed between 13kg and 31kg and sold from $40 to $131.50 or 314 c to 425c/kg LWT.
A line of 450 second cross Poll Dorset mixed sex suckers, March/April 18 drop and weighing 30kg from Toogong, NSW returned $130.50.
From Harden, NSW, a 670 White Suffolk/Merino mixed sex suckers, April/May 18’ drop and weighing 30kg, averaged $111. While from Nyngan, NSW, mixed sex White Dorper lambs, Feb/April 18’ drop and weighing 21kg sold for $69.
