Rain pushes heifers and calves to $1810

These first calf heifers and their calves from Everton, Vic, sold for $1810 on AuctionsPlus.

Cow and calf units were in high demand on AuctionsPlus last week with an 88% clearance for the 1,036 head listed.

The average price of $1,264 was up $56 on the previous week.

From Everton, VIC, a line of Angus heifers & calves returned the top price of $1,810. The heifers are 2.5-3 years old, weigh 545 kgs with 4-10 week old calves at foot.

This line is heading to Berwick, VIC. Another highlight was a line of Angus cows and calves from Jugiong, NSW, achieving a price of $1,550.

The cows are 4-8 years old, weigh 674kgs with 1-3 month old CAF. The line was split into 2 lots and will be heading to two different buyers in Dubbo and Blayney, NSW.

Cattle numbers dropped back this week to total 6,781 head, a decrease of 868 head. The weaner and yearling sale made up most listings once again with 4,206 head offered.

Widespread rainfall across parts of the eastern states may have triggered the 15% spike in clearance rates, with 70% of lots finding buyers.

Weaned heifers weighing up to 300 kgs averaged $648 or 250c and topped at 301c. The top price went to a line of Angus weaned heifers from Goondiwindi, QLD.

These heifers are 12-14 months old, weigh 228 kgs and found a buyer in Bellata, NSW. Weaned heifers over 300 kgs were topped by a line of Red Angus heifers from Pipers River, TAS.

These heifers are 12-13 months old, weigh 338kgs and are bred out of Paringa and Pine Park blood. The heifers found a buyer in Staverton, TAS.

Angus yearling heifers from Albany, WA sold for $1115 or 254c. These heifers are Lawsons Angus blood, are 16-18 months old, weigh 433 kgs and are heading to Pemberton, WA.

Poll Hereford yearling heifers from Wantabadgery, NSW sold for $720 or 236c. These heifers are 12-13 months old, averaged 318 kgs, are bred from Allendale & Yavenvale blood and are making their way to Cudal, NSW.

Angus yearling steers from Drysdale, VIC sold for $1,150 or 295c. These steers are 12-14 months old, weigh 389 kgs, are bred from Te Mania blood and are heading to Beech Forest, VIC.

Murray Grey yearling steers from Scottsdale, TAS sold for $1090 or 316c. The steers are 14-15 months old, weigh 345 kgs and found a buyer in Barrington, TAS.

Shorthorn Droughtmaster cross weaned steers from Barcaldine, QLD sold for $665 or 332c. The steers are 5-10 months old, weigh 211 kgs, and are heading to Taroom, QLD.
