The $11,000 sale-topper, Violet Hills Neon, with vendor Daryl Jenkins, Violet Hills stud, Andrew Bickford, Elders Bathurst and auctioneer Brian Kennedy, Elders Armidale.
An online buyer from Queensland has secured the $11,000 top priced bull at the 9th annual on-property Violet Hills Charolais sale, Rydal.
Alan Goodland from Clare Charolais, Theodore, Qld, was the lucky buyer that snapped up the leading bull of the sale, Violet Hills Neon, for the sale-topping price.
Sired by Violet Hills Jolly Joker and from Violet Hills J130E, the 20 month old bull weighed 790 Kg and measured up the highest eye muscle area (EMA) in the draft at 141 centimetres squared, with an intramuscular fat (IMF) of 4.1% and 7mm and 6mm in the rump and rib fats.
With semen being retained for in herd use by the Jenkins family of the Violet Hills stud, Daryl Jenkins said the bull was an exceptional bull that is what they are targeting to breed in their programme.
“He is very balanced, extremely quiet, deep bodied and he has the carcase and early maturing pattern we like in our cattle,” Mr. Jenkins said. “He is also homozygous poll, which is what buyers are chasing.”
In total the Jenkins family sold 34 bulls of the 45 they offered for a 75% clearance and $5,500 average.
Two bulls hit the second top-price of $8,500.
The first was Violet Hills Navan, a 20 month old son of Violet Hills Gaelic Warrior, bought by Charela Partnership, Singleton. Navan was from Violet Hills H17E and tipped the scales at 824Kg with an IMF of 4.1, EMI of 138 sq cm and rump and rib fats of 6mm and 5mm.
Violet Hills Nasir also sold for $8,500 to PZU-Viticultural Services, Healesville, Vic. Also 20 months old and by the Violet Hills Gaelic Warrior sire, out of Violet Hills Brenda. Nasir was the heaviest bull in the draft at 836Kg, with an EMA of 134 sq cm, 8mm and 5mm in the rump and rib fat, and an IMF of 3.3%.
PZU-Viticultural Services were also major buyers securing 3 bulls.
The largest volume buyer was Burnbrook, Wolumla, who bought 6.
Elders Bathurst conducted the sale with Brian Kennedy, Armidale as the auctioneer.
