Water market to be explored at irrigator workshops

Famers will hear first-hand from an independent party about the seasonal outlook for 2020 and beyond, and how to manage financial risk going forward.

The Victorian Farmers Federation is hosting irrigator workshops with independent water consultancy Aither for farmers in Mildura, Kerang, Echuca, Tatura, Numurkah, and Benalla throughout July.

“The combination of drought and increasing irrigation demand is putting a lot of pressure on the water market and creating skyrocketing prices for irrigators,” said Mr Richard Anderson, VFF Water Council Chair.

“These workshops will be invaluable for farmers who want to explore the drivers of water prices, learn about water purchasing and portfolio management options, and understand the state of the water market.

“Famers will hear first-hand from an independent party about the seasonal outlook for 2020 and beyond, and how to manage financial risk going forward.

“Aither is a leading water consultancy, and they will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the workshops. I am confident farmers will walk away from these workshops armed with tools that will further assist them in their water trading decisions, helping their businesses become more sustainable and profitable,” said Mr Anderson.

The workshops are open to all farmers and registrations can be made by calling VFF Member Services on 1300 882 833 or emailing members@vff.org.au
