Agriculture Victoria’s East Gippsland Beef Conference will tackle the hard questions of managing through tough times with an eye to future planning.
The conference will be held at the Bairnsdale Sporting and Recreation Centre on Tuesday 13 August.
BetterBeef Project Leader, Darren Hickey said the conference program had been developed to provide producers with some informative presentations designed to provide them with insights to what has and hasn’t worked in the current environment, as well as equip them with some strategies for future planning.
“We aim to provide Gippsland beef farmers with a great opportunity to take home new ideas, improve on existing practices, and renew old acquaintances as they continue to tackle what has been a tough time for farming in Gippsland.
“This year’s program will cover a range of topics designed to motivate producers to adopt best management practices and improve productivity,” Mr Hickey said.
The conference is expected to attract beef producers from across Gippsland and beyond, with speakers coming from across Australia.
Michael Crowley of Meat & Livestock Australia will present on ‘Innovation in a commercial beef enterprise’ and Rob Hermann of Mecardo and Simon Quilty of MLX will test their predictions in a ‘Market Analysis Forum’ in the morning session.
Rob Inglis of Elders Australia will provide a stock agent’s perspective in his ‘Herd re-building’ presentation, where he will explore the scenario of re-stocking after the worst of the dry period is over.
In the afternoon session, Jason Trompf of JT Agri-source will discuss the ‘Value and Benefits of Breeding Objectives’ and panellists Charlie Maslin, David Read, and Brad and Jenny Smith will discuss their strategies for getting through tough times in a primary producer forum.
Mr Hickey said the conference will connect local producers with researchers and service providers in the beef industry.
“We look forward to hearing some thought-provoking presentations and networking at the conference dinner.”
