Restockers push cows and calves to $3020

Cows-MaitlandCow and calf units saw the biggest price jump and clearance this week as demand continues by those farmers looking to restock after recent rain.

Selling from $1,800 to $3,020, averaging $2,193, the average jumped $152 on last week and clearance saw 83% of the total yard sold.

The top price was shared by two lines of cows with CAF this week. From Maitland, NSW offered by A/c ‘Jacaranda Park’ 23 Angus Station Mated cows & calves (pictured) achieved the top price.

These mixed age cows weighing 548kg have 235kg CAF aged 4-7-months and were sired by Angus bulls.

The other top priced line was offered by A/c ‘Heyson Pastoral’ at Shady Creek, VIC with 20 NSM heifers & calves. These 20-30-month-old Camoola blood Angus heifers weigh 596kgs with 107kg Bongongo Angus CAF aged 5-12-months.

PTIC cows were hotly contested this week achieving an 88% clearance among the 1,879 head offered, selling from $1,200 to $2,760, averaging $1,959. The top price went to a line of Millah Murrah blood Angus cows, PTIC to Millah Murrah bulls.

These 3.5-4.5-year-old cows offered by A/c ‘Rocking W Pastoral Company’ from Bathurst, NSW, weigh 574kg and will be heading to Glenburn, VIC. From Narbethong, VIC by A/c ‘St Fillan Ag Co’ a line of 25 Red Angus PTIC cows sold for $2,125.

These 3-4-year-old cows weighing 484kgs are PTIC to Red Angus bulls and will be heading north to Mudgee, NSW.

PTIC heifers sold from $1,475 to $2,450, averaging $1,799. Numbers corrected this week with 1,164 head offered after the 603 head jump last week.

The top price went to a line of 16-18-month-old Angus/Shorthorn heifers, PTIC to Black Limousin bulls.

These heifers are from Forbes, offered by A/c ‘West Plains Partnership’ and weigh 501kgs.

From Dorrigo, NSW a line of Nero and Yamburgan blood Shorthorn PTIC heifers sold for $2,010, offered by A/c ‘David Tracy Cattle’. Weighing 587kgs, these mixed age heifers are PTIC to Shorthorn bulls and will be traveling to Bourke, NSW

The Eastern States Sale this week included registered Brangus cattle from Koreelah by A/c ‘Wright Pastoral’.

A line of two 30-32-month-old Brangus PTIC heifers sold for $3,300, weighing 548kgs and are PTIC to registered Brangus bulls. They will be making their way to Casino, NSW. Selling for $7,000, a line of three 5-6-year-old NSM cows were offered weighing 773kgs.

Prices remained strong this week among the smaller offering of 7,273 steers, down 2,467 head on last week.

Light steers under 200kgs sold from 320c to 623c, averaging 484c, down 66c. The top price went to a line of Angus steers from Taralga, NSW.

Weighing 169kg, these 8-9-month old Myanga blood Angus steers were offered by A/c ‘DG & PM Cummins’. From Trundle, NSW, A/c ‘DJ & KJ Curtis’ offered a line of 5-9-month-old Santa Gertrudis steers weighing 185kgs, which sold for 531c.

Steers weighing 200-280kgs sold from 306c to 561c, averaging 468c. 6-7-month-old Glenavon blood Angus steers weighing 238kgs achieved the top price from Mendooran, NSW by A/c ‘Citriodora Pty Ltd’.

From Hannaford, QLD by A/c ‘Golden Arrow Grazing Co’ a line of 6-8-month-old Booroomooka blood Angus steers weighing 215kgs sold for 552c.

280-330kg steers sold from 327c to 472c, averaging 420c up 10c on last week. A run of 8-9-month-old Angus steers weighing 299kgs achieved the top price from Nangus, NSW offered by A/c ‘Uri Park Pastoral’.

These steers will be making their way north to QLD. From Wangaratta, VIC, A/c ‘P & L Byrne’ offered 6 Black Aqua blood Angus steers aged 8-9 months weighing 284kgs, which sold for 440c.

Feeder steers weighing 330-400kgs sold from 277c to 430c, averaging 380c, easing 20c on last week. From Canberra, ACT offered by A/c ‘Goldenholm Pty Ltd’ a line of 8-10-month old Angus steers achieved the top price.

Weighing 351kgs, these Alloura blood steers will be heading to Mangoplah in the Riverina region of NSW.

A line of 13-14-month old Hereford steers weighing 377kgs sold for 413c offered by A/c ‘WD & RG Coulston’ from Lucyvale, VIC.

Heavy steers weighing over 400kgs sold from 327c to 406c, averaging 382c, up 7c, with an increased offering of 85 head to total 257 yarded in this category.

A/c ‘Greenwald Pastoral Co’ from Foster, VIC offered the top priced lot with 56 13-14-month old Dunoon Angus steers weighing 427kgs. From Dalby, QLD, A/c ‘Yathong’ offered a line of 17-20-month-old Droughtmaster steers weighing 408kgs which sold for 358c.
