Holstein Australia is pleased to welcome Rebecca Haebich to the Classification Team.
The South Australian dairy farmer brings a range of skills to the team, including her herd testing and herd management experience.
Rebecca began her classification training with experts Phil Hentschke and Richard Anderson back in November 2021 and has since spent time with each classifier.
When asked why she applied for the job Rebecca said her herd was classified a lot over the years and she always thought it was a critical job.
“I just love cows and I’m really keen to greet members, see some good Aussie cows and make it enjoyable for everyone,” Rebecca said.
You may recognise Rebecca from her days in the show ring and if you don’t, you may know her family. Her parents, Brian and Maria, of Athol Farm at Tailem Bend, SA are long standing HA members, milking up to 160 cows. They have one of the longest registered herds in South Australia and have been active members within the community, helping organise the Murray Bridge Calf Day over the past 20 years. They also bred Athol Farm Echo Pietje 19, who was the first South Australian cow to milk two hundred thousand litres.
Rebecca’s new role was born from the increasing demand for classification; with Holstein Australia predicting a rise in services over the next year.
Classification Coordinator, Leanne Summerville said the demand was prevalent even without the states and territories which have been excluded from the class tour over the past two years due to border restrictions.
HA CEO Rohan Butler welcomed Rebecca on board. “With Rebecca’s reputation, industry knowledge and quick learning skills, it is without a doubt that she will make a great addition to the team”.
