Specialised four day tour for feedlot operators looking at covered housing systems

Registrations are now open for the ALFA ‘Going Under Cover’ feedlot tour looking at shade and covered housing systems fit for Australian feedlots.

This all-inclusive four-day tour that will feature visits to multiple feedlots to review a variety of shade and covered housing systems available on the market, and provide opportunity for lot feeders to hear first-hand the benefits of these structures from their peers.

Tour dates: 8 – 11 May, 2023

Eligibility: Open to lot feeders only at this stage, and one person per feedlot, due to limited spots.

Registration Includes: 3-nights’ accommodation, bus travel, meals, and presentations from industry experts, shade manufacturers, and other lot feeders. Travel expenses to/from pick up and drop off points not included.

Learn from industry experts about planning, implementing and the benefits of feedlot shade and covered housing systems. Hear first-hand from lot feeders on their experiences and learnings, and receive access to resources including best practice design guides, feedlot shade and covered housing specialists, manufacturers, and retailers.

If you’re interested in improving your feedlot operation or are looking to upgrade existing structures, then this tour is for you. The tour will help inform your investment decisions with presentations from industry specialists highlighting new industry resources. You will also have exposure to progressive thinkers and lot feeder owners/operators, hear about their implementation journeys and have opportunities to ask questions and explore options in person.

Over the four-day tour, you’ll be able to get an up-close experience of both shade and shelter technologies and infrastructure. Visiting up to six host feedlots that have already incorporated these changes will help better inform your thinking, ensuring you circumnavigate around any challenge you may be facing. The event also provides opportunities to learn how to upgrade or improve your current structure. The tour will be a great chance to network with other neighbouring lot feeders, learn from a range of subject matter experts and share your views and experiences in lot feeding infrastructure.

Monday 8th May | Pick up Melbourne Airport, visit Jalna Feedlot with overnight in Bendigo

Tuesday 9th May | Visit Teys Charlton Feedlot, West Wimmera Feedlot with overnight in Naracoorte

Wednesday 10th May | Visit Mayura Feedlot, Thomas Foods Southern Cross Feedlot and overnight in Murray Bridge

Thursday 11th May | Visit Campbell House Dairy before concluding with a drop off at Adelaide airport mid afternoon*itinerary is subject to change.

SPECIAL NOTES

  • All delegates must travel on the tour bus. No other cars will be allowed, unless by special request.

  • There are limited tickets for sale. First in, first served.

  • Spots are limited to one seat per feedlot in the first release.
