This year marks the 50th year Limousin cattle have been in Australia, and in that time the breed has developed and refined to become an industry relevant breed with plenty to offer the beef industry.
This year’s Northern Limousin Breeders Sale was host to very consistent line up of high quality cattle offered by 12 breeders.
A total of 33 of 42 bulls sold to a top of $28,000 for Lot 23 and average of $7156. The 864kg, 23 month old top priced bull, Froghollow Ace S1480, was offered by Matthew Friend of Froghollow Limousins, Black Mountain, and sold to Damien and Mandy Gommers of Mandayen Limousins in South Australia.
The homozygous polled and homozygous black son of LFLC Ace, impressed with his raw data having scanned 13 and 8 for fats, an EMA of 140 and IMF of 4.7 the day prior.
Females topped at $6,000 for Lot 50, Amber Park Sweet Prize, a 19mth stylish black homo polled heifer offered by Ken and Kirstin Bisley at Amber Park Limousins, which sold PTIC to Summit Recharge R35.
The successful purchaser of the led heifer was the Grant family of The Downfall Limousins, in Queensland, who are repeat buyers from the sale.
Sale committee representative, Kirstin Bisley said this year’s offering was one of the most consistent line ups of high quality bulls and females the sale has offered and the sale continues to improve every year.
Despite the dry seasonal conditions throughout the local landscape, buyers showed strong support and demand for the Limousin genetics on offer, with sales into SA, Qld, TAS and NSW. The committee would like to thank the selling agent, Nutrien Livestock – Scone, the buyers, under bidders and vendors.
