Four Angus Australia youth scholarships now open to young cattle breeders

With the purpose of encouraging and assisting young people in the beef industry through providing professional development opportunities for young beef breeders, and to assist in conducting development and educational programs for the benefit of Angus breeders and the wider Australian beef industry, Angus Youth and the Angus Foundation are pleased to announce a number of scholarships and programs are open for applications.

Supported by the Angus Foundation, applications are open for the Beef Australia Scholarships, the TransTasman Exchange, the NH Foods Cadetship and the GenAngus Future Leaders Program.

The Angus Foundation Beef Australia Scholarships provide the opportunity for two Angus Australia members aged between 18 and 30 to attend the 2024 Beef Australia. The aim of scholarship is to increase the recipient’s knowledge of the beef industry, expose them to different agricultural production systems, develop their personal skills and strengthen relationships between the world’s beef industries. Applications close Friday February 9th, 2024.

With an opportunity to investigate international beef industries, applications are open for the 2024 TransTasman Exchange. Each year the TransTasman Exchange, sponsored by the New England Travel Centre and the Australia Foundation, provides an opportunity for a young person to observe the New Zealand beef industry. Annually, an Angus Australia member aged between 18 and 30 is selected and will spend at least four weeks touring the New Zealand beef industry, extending their network internationally and learning about cattle production on a global level. Applications close Friday February 23rd, 2024.

In excellent news, the Angus Foundation NH Foods Cadetship is back for 2024, providing the recipient with an authentic and valuable experience of the industry and NH Foods Australia’s core activities: breeding, feedlotting, production, marketing, and sales.

The cadetship will take place over a four-week period, with NH Foods Australia to work together with the recipient to create an individualised development program that suits their interests.

Following their placement with NH Foods, the successful recipient will conclude their cadetship by completing the Marcus Oldham Rural Leadership Course, recognised as one of the longest running rural leadership programs in the nation. Angus Australia and specialist agricultural insurer Achmea Australia are thrilled with the much-anticipated return of the GenAngus Future Leaders Program (GenAngus) in 2024. Adding to the excitement, for the very first time GenAngus will be hosted in New Zealand.

The GenAngus Future Leaders Program is the flagship youth leadership program of the strategic alliance between Angus Australia and Achmea Australia. Heading into its sixth year, the program has already supported more than 50 young Angus Australia members to advance their career in the beef industry. The intensive three-day GenAngus program, led by industry experts, will provide participants with valuable insights to help start their own beef cattle enterprise or take their existing businesses to new heights.

Angus Australia members aged 18 to 40 are invited to apply for the 2024 GenAngus Future Leaders Program, which will be held from the 28th to the 31st of May 2024 at Peppers Clearwater Resort in Christchurch, New Zealand. Applications for GenAngus close Monday January 29th, 2024.
