A stylish black Limousin bull stole the show at Maryvale’s Allendale North on-property sale, after a solid bidding tussle resulted in a $19,000 top.
The stud offered Limousin and Lim-Flex bulls, the pure Limousin run had nine offered and eight sold to $19,000 for a $8875 sale average.
A solid offering of Lim-Flex bulls featured at the stud’s sale were also in demand, with nine sold from 13 offered, to $7500, averaging $6277. Immediately after the sale a few of the passed in bulls were sold.
The$19,000 Limousin bull was 19-month-old, Maryvale Turnout T399, which weighed 710 kilograms.
With a 37-centimeter scrotal circumference, the bull AMSPT339 recorded estimated breeding values of+0.5 P8, +0.3 rib fat and +4.2 eye muscle area. Other traits observed also included +400 for 400-day bodyweight and +53 at 600-days and is homo black, homo polled and has 2 copies of the F94L gene.
The bull was sired by Balamore Endeavor 701E and out of Maryvale dam, Remake R36. It was bought by return clients, Hearnden Limousins, Mount Pleasant.
The sire will go to stud duties after the stylish bull was picked out by Brooke Hearnden for its width and back-end shape.
“We want to breed traditional Limousin cattle and show steers,” Ms Hearnden said.
“We had been looking at this bloodline after purchasing Maryvale cows and a bull at previous sales.”
The stud runs about 35breeders, and Turnout will be utilised over the entire herd.
“He will be using dover heifers throughout the entire year. We have two calving periods in Marchand September,’ Ms Hearnden said.
Maryvale stud principal Matt Vogt believed the Limousin breed is being sought after for the hybrid vigour, longevity and performance they can offer the industry.
“We improved on last year’s top price in the Limousin lineup, with bidders coming from 4 states which was very positive.” he said.
“The top bull’s sire was popular and its progeny was in short supply. It covered all of the bases with its type and structure data.”
The $7500 top price Lim-Flex bull was picked up in the barn by a Victorian buyer.
Maryvale TheoryAMS1T363 was a 17mo, 730kg sire which had a 37cm scrotal circumference with +2.6 EMA, +1.5 rib, +1.3 IMF, +37 400-day weight.
His Angus sire was Maryvale Quixley Q67 (who is a son of Baldridge Beast Mode and Millah Murrah Eclipse) and out of Limo dam Maryvale PresentP835.
The sale was conducted by Nutrien Beaton Agencies Kapunda with Nutrien stud stock team, Gordon Wood and Andrew Wilson taking the bids.
