A delegation from Botswana has been on a trip to Western Australia to source quality genetics of several breeds.
The cattle are destined to enter an embryo transfer program back in Botswana and the visitors covered hundreds of kilometres and sourcing quality genetics from Charolais, Simmental, Red Angus, Angus, Shorthorn, Droughtmaster, Santa Gertrudis, Wagyu and Limousin studs across the Southwest of the state, approximately 90 cattle all up.
ALBS president WA region Kevin Beal said it was a great pleasure to meet up with the visitors and spend some time with them over lunch as well as show them cattle and provide an insight into his program.
The delegation of six included several government representatives including a finance officer, AI technicians, a vet as well as a farmer.
“The Limousin they were chasing had to be apricot or red and aged 15 to 24 months. James and Casey Morris of Morrisvale Limousins had been in contact with the group for some time and were successful in supplying 3 bulls and 4 heifers to be flown to Botswana after spending a month in quarantine in WA with the other breeds,” Mr Beal said.
“This is likely the first shipment of live Limousin cattle from Australia to Botswana and has the potential to create a new market that has some benefit for all of us.”
