The 2025 Neogen World Angus Forum, a premier global event for the Angus beef industry, announced the inclusion of breakthrough topics such as biotechnology in its program.
The event will feature world-leading scientist Dr Alison Van Eenennaam, who will outline the latest developments for gene editing and CRISPR technologies in cattle.
Gene-editing technology has gone well beyond cloning and as cattle breeders, we need to understand what’s coming and what it means for our businesses, according to Erica Halliday, Chair of the World Angus Forum organising committee.
The forum, set for May 7-8 in Brisbane, will also cover how biotech is being developed to lower methane emissions in cattle by changing their DNA, as well as removing the horn gene from certain breeds using CRISPR. This session is intended to help delegates understand the applications and implications of such technologies.
“Already we are seeing biotech being developed as a way of lowering methane emissions in cattle by changing their DNA, and removing the horn gene from certain breeds using CRISPR is underway so this session will help delegates understand the applications and implications” Erica said. “We appreciate how controversial this topic might be, but we set out to design a programme that will enable attendees to make informed decisions for their own operations, whether they are producers, processors or even retailers”.
Dr Alison Van Eenennaam, a Distinguished Professor of Cooperative Extension in the field of Animal Genomics and Biotechnology in the Department of Animal Science at the University of California, Davis, has been on faculty for over 20 years. She focuses on the use of animal genomics and biotechnology in livestock production systems and is recognised globally for her contributions. Delegates from over 26 countries are expected to attend the event, which will commence with a harbour cruise in Sydney and include pre and post tours, the Zoetis AngusEXPO in Tamworth, and the main Neogen World Angus Forum Conference in Brisbane.
“We are excited to have Alison present at Brisbane and welcome all cattle producers to attend. The event is open to producers of all cattle breeds, as well as processors, wholesalers and other stakeholders” according to Erica.
The 2025 Neogen World Angus Forum aims to provide breeders with unprecedented opportunities to showcase their genetics on a global stage. The Forum will host the largest registered Angus cattle exhibition ever held in Australia and include events such as Cattle Breeders College, Cattle Chats, AngusCAMPDRAFT, the Angus-BBQ competition, live music, the Teys Australia AngusSHOOT-OUT Awards Dinner, Angus on Ice Genetics Sale and Elite Female Sales.
The forum also promises a comprehensive agenda designed to tackle the pressing issues facing the industry today. Dr Van Eenennaam’s extensive work, including her appearances on national media and her contributions to public discourse, make her an invaluable resource for attendees.
“Her extensive experience and profound knowledge of genetics and biotechnology will provide attendees with crucial insights into the future of livestock production,” Erica concluded.
Tickets for the various parts of the forum, as well as packages that include networking events, are available at www.worldangusforum2025.com. This event promises to be a milestone for the global beef industry, making it a must-attend for all stakeholders.
