Grima comptes for Angus Australia in Zoetis World Angus Youth competition

Micquella Grima

Nutrien Ag Solutions Southern Stud Stock Marketing Specialist Micquella Grima is competing for Angus Australia in the Zoetis World Angus Youth Competition.

The competition runs alongside the 2025 Neogen World Angus Forum, which unites Angus cattle breeders, enthusiasts and industry professionals from across the globe to come together and discuss all things beef.

Grima, who is based in Albury, said the opportunity to represent Nutrien Ag Solutions and the Australian beef industry, will no doubt go down as a career highlight.

“I have a long running relationship with Angus Australia. I’ve been privileged to receive a number of awards and scholarships from the Angus Society as well as sit on the Angus NSW State Community as a Youth Representative,” Grima said.

“When I first applied, I spoke with my manager Peter Godbolt because I knew there would be a significant period off work, but from the beginning I’ve had the support of the whole stud stock team.

“Working in a stud stock role, there’s also plenty of resources available, so I’ve also been lucky enough to lean on different expertise in the industry and Nutrien network.”

Grima is competing in one of two teams of four nominated by Angus Australia and they will come up against like-minded young ambassadors from New Zealand, the UK and Ireland, Czech Republic, USA and Canada.

The youth delegates will be put to the test through various competitions including stock judging, public speaking, stock handling and carcase assessing throughout the 11-day event which takes them from Sydney to Brisbane.

“The Australian beef industry is quite unique in terms of our diversity of operation types and markets compared to many other countries. I’m excited to gain an insight into where Australia sits in terms of our competitiveness as an industry on a global scale,” Grima said

“I’m also excited to collaborate on the different opportunities and challenges that we think might arise in the future and discuss how we can harness these opportunities to support the continuity of the industry. “I’m the only Nutrien employee competing so I’m very proud to represent our brand and particularly our stud stock team, who have really supported my development and set me up to fulfil my potential in this competition.”

Grima’s longstanding love for livestock and agriculture stems from early years showing cattle for her local Hawkesbury Show which has even seen her go on to judge at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.

“The show I had the most involvement with as a kid was the Hawkesbury Show and I’ve continued to stay involved with the industry, showing cattle from Central Queensland to Southern Victoria and even representing Nutrien the last few years,” she said.

“It’s a very passionate industry and there’s that saying that when you work in agriculture it’s not just a job, it’s a lifestyle, and I think that’s very true for the stud stock industry.

“We are towards the end of the autumn selling season but on Saturday we have the Limousin National Show and Sale in Albury before I fly up to compete in the forum on Monday. “I’ll then fly straight back down in May to prepare for the Hereford National Show and Sale in Wodonga the day I get back… but I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
