Record prices marked the 7th annual Potential Show Steer sale hosted by Colin Say and Co at Glen Innes saleyards on
March 7.
All 29 specially selected lots including 28 steers and one heifer, sold to a new cents per kilogram sale record of $12.25
and an average of $6.77 per kilogram.
Wayne Davis and his son Adam, Jaward Limousins, East Kurrajong secured the record breaking, pure Limousin steer
from first time vendors, Don and Sarah Riley, Oakvale Limousins, Duri.
Weighing in at 205 kilograms, the Manali F53 son returned $2511.25 to the vendors.
A 320 kilogram Charolais X Limousin/Angus steer presented by the McIndoe family, Smithston Farms, Glen Innes
achieved the highest return on the day with Chrissie Williamson and her son Adam, AT Limousins, Ballendean QLD
paying $3040 for the Reserve Champion steer.
The Williamson family, who inspected the steers the day before the sale, plan to enter the steer in their local show
circuit including Toowoomba with the ultimate aim to show him at the EKKA.
Prior to the sale, the steers were judged by Adam MacRae, Coonamble High School.
As a regular volume buyer since the sale’s inception, Mr MacRae was thoroughly impressed with the line-up and
complimented the unique sale concept as a great place to shop for genuine show prospects.
Taking out Champion on the day was a 355 kilogram pure Limousin steer presented by Oakvale Limousins, Duri who
was purchased by Wee Waa High School for $8.50 per kilogram returning $3017.50 to the vendors along with a $500
winner’s cheque.
Mr MacRae described the steer as a highly functional calf with a “power of meat” demonstrating great thickness from
his hips to his shoulders.
The sale attracted show steer enthusiasts from across NSW and QLD, with Colin Say and Co announcing a new $1000
bonus sale incentive for the highest pointed steer at the 2016 EKKA.
In total 12 schools attended the sale with eight schools purchasing.
Coonamble High School secured 4 steers and took home the half tonne of Stock feed for volume school buyer
sponsored by Riverina, whilst first time buyers Calrossy Anglican School, Tamworth were drawn from a hat to receive
the other half tonne.
Sale coordinator, Nathan Purvis, Colin Say and Co was ecstatic with the record breaking sale result and complimented
the vendors and sponsors on building on the quality year in, year out.
