For the first time, the Shorthorn breed has become the number two breed for semen sales with ABS Australia for the 2015-16 financial year.
ABS Australia are the largest semen resellers in the Australian Beef industry and have been heavily involved with the Shorthorn breed since 2014.
Rate of AI registrations is a key indicator of a breeds ability to accelerate genetic gain, as producers have access to breed leading sires at competitive pricing, through Artificial Insemination.
The Shorthorn breed has clearly demonstrated it’s commitment to the Australian Beef industry and to delivering excellence and performance, despite the seasonal challenges many breeders faced during late 2015 and early 2016.
ABS Australia Beef Manager, Bill Cornell, said “ABS has had extremely positive feedback on the first crops of calves from the ABS Shorthorn sires, with many breeders recommitting to further semen sales.”
