Angus beef brands have cleaned up at the 2016 Sydney Royal Fine Food Show, Branded Beef Competition, taking out 3 of the 4 major awards and 4 of the 7 Gold Medals.
Leading the way was Certified Angus Group’s (CAG) Signature Angus Pure product, which was awarded the Champion Grass Fed Beef award after claiming a Gold Medal in this class.
Angus Pure was developed in 2009 as a response to the recognised consumer demand for a high quality pasture fed Angus Beef product produced naturally; pasture fed, free from antibiotics and hormone growth promotants.
The Champion Grain Fed Beef Award went to Stockyard Pty Ltd’s Stockyard Gold Longfed Angus entry.
Stockyard’s long fed beef is derived from Angus cattle fed on grain for a minimum of 200 days at the Kerwee Feedlot on a specially formulated high energy grain ration.
To guarantee taste, flavour and safety, Stockyard uses locally grown wholesome wheat, barley and sorghum; absolutely no growth promotants, antibiotics, animal by-products or genetically modified (GMO) feed products are used.
Stockyard Gold Longfed Angus was the only entry awarded a Gold Medal in the Grain Fed Class.
In the Open Section, Bindaree Beef’s Mayfield product was awarded a Gold Medal and the crown of Champion Open Beef.
Cattle sourced for the Mayfield brand are predominantly British Breed Angus and spend 90 to 110 days on free range pastures, grazing on pristine natural grasses with unfettered access to a nutritious barley based grain feed. All cattle are selected to comply with MSA grading.
