SA pastoral Shorthorn steers average $2350

shorthornsA line of 78 Bayview blood,Billa Kalina bred Shorthorn steers have returned an amazing average of $2,350 for Col Greenfield, dressing at 351 kgs with 11 mm of fat.

Billa Kalina, based near Woomera in South Australia’s pastoral region, runs approximately 4,000 Shorthorn breeders.

The 500,000 hectare pastoral lease station was taken up by the Greenfield family in 1937.

The SA dog fence runs through the property, however Billa Kalina also sits inside the Woomera Testing Range, home to the Australian Air Force’s missile testing facility and the worlds largest open range testing site.

Billa Kalina is bordered by Anna Creek to the north, Stuart Creek to the east, Parakylia to the south and Millers Creek to the west.

Shorthorn cattle share the vast spread with the Air Force missile testing facility and of recent times the mining community, with copper and gold mined at nearby Prominent Hill.

The Billa Kalina homestead also features a bomb shelter in the yard, a unique feature for station life.
