Light restocking vealer steers gain 6c/kg

SELX-cattle-1

Ben Hindmarsh & Nick Harton, Jim Hindmarsh & Co sold Belgian Blue x Vealers on behalf of Murrungal Partnership, Boorowa to a top of 356.2c/kg, averaging 335kg, $1193.27ph.

Cattle numbers lifted and the quality improved over all categories at the SELX this week.

Yearlings were well supplied and feeders were active on most, but there was an increase in trade buys. Vealers were also better supplied.

Grown steers and heifers were back in numbers and there were around 250 head of mainly medium and heavy weight cows offered. The usual group of buyers were operating and restockers were not as keen. The market was firm to dearer.

Light restocking vealer steers gained 6c selling from 360c to 393c/kg. The best of the heavy trade veal reached 360c/kg. Feeder steers and heifers were firm with the medium weight steers selling from 305c to 351c and light weights to 356c/kg. Feeder heifers ranged from 304c to 336c/kg.

The better end of the trade cattle lifted 2c but the average eased as buyers purchased more crossbred cattle. Trade steers sold from 296c to 349c and heifers to 336.2c/kg.

Grown steers eased 14c/kg with supply short. Prices ranged from 296c to 314c and grown heifers reached 290c/kg. Cows were firm with the medium weight 2 scores 200c to 216c and the heavy 3 and 4 scores 213c to 239c/kg averaging 228c/kg.
