Joined heifers make $2000 at Wodonga today in bidding war

Alan Beer, Wodonga, and his brother Wally, of Finley, were at the Wodonga sale today. Wally sold Poll Hereford steer weaners weighing 302kg.

Solid demand from restockers resulted in pregnancy tested in calf heifers selling to a top of $2000 at the NVLX Wodonga special store sale this morning.

Harry and Sue Ryder, of Tawonga, Vic, offered a line of PTIC Red Angus-Hereford heifers, two years, depastured to low birthweight, calving ease Poll Hereford bulls.

They sold after a bidding war for $2000 to Elders Albury.

Selling agents Elders, Landmark and Corcoran Parker yarded 3000 for the May 4 fixture.

The Ryders went on to sell PTIC Red Angus-Hereford cows, 601kg, joined to Poll Hereford bulls, for $2180 to Rex O’Keefe, Elders Albury.

First cross Angus cows with calves, not rejoined and offered by L McCrystal, Yackandandah, sold for $2500 to Stephen Street, Elders Myrtleford.

Mr Street picked up a second pen of Angus cows and calves, not rejoined, from McCrystal for $2450.

In the older females, H & R Long, Howitt Plains, Violet Town, sold seven to eight-year-old cows with calves for $1890 to Corcoran Parker.

Albury commission buyer Graeme Ward paid $1540 for nine PTIC Hereford cows, 449kg, Kanimbla blood, three years, and joined to Blue-E bulls, from FAF Aberfeldy, Holbrook.

Werai Station, Deniliquin, sold a run of 22 PTIC Angus cows, Lawson blood, 503kg, joined to Lawson and Te Mania bulls, for $1480 to commission buyer Duncan Brown.

Mr Brown also paid $1780 for a pen of joined black baldies, 585kg, from Werai.

In the steer pens, Wally Beer, of Mayrung, offered weaners, six to nine months, Kanimbla blood, and weighing 257-302kg.

“It looks like being a phenomenal season, depending on the next rain,” Mr Beer said.

“We sold steers last month and they averaged $780 for lightweight weaners.

“I’m thinking possibly $120o today – anything over that is a bonus.”
