First cross ewe hoggets make $321 on AuctionsPlus

WA-sheep-8A stand out line of ewe hoggets from Cohuna, VIC, made a massive $321 on AuctionsPlus last week.

These ewes weighed in at 56 kgs and have been scanned in lamb to White Suffolk rams.

Proven breeders topped at $242, which went to a line of 6 year old ewes with Poll Dorset lambs at foot from Coolamon, NSW.

Total sheep listings were back to 39,737 head falling 1,274 head from last weeks listings. However clearance rates increased slightly to 86%, with a total of 34,194 head sold throughout the week.

New South Wales made up the bulk of this weeks listings with 20,841 head sold, followed by Queensland with 8,565 head cleared.

Meanwhile 2,139 head were sold out of Victoria, 1,663 from Tasmania and 986 from South Australia. Stock from Queensland will be on the move in the coming weeks, with buyers hailing from four states.

Merino ewe numbers were strong this week, making up 11, 288 head, or 33 % of the total cleared stock. However this didn’t seem to effect buyer competition for breeding stock.

Ewe lambs reached a top of $148, with an average of $139. This top price went to a line of 1000 head from Broken Hill, NSW, sold as a run out of the gate over two lots.

Young ewes sold extremely well, receiving a top of $228, which went to a line of 23 to 24 month old SIL ewes from West Wylong, NSW.

In the north, a line of 4 year old ewes from Longreach, QLD, made $210.50. These girls have young Kerin Poll Merino lambs at foot, and will be making a massive 1,911 km journey down to Orrorro, SA.

Another line of 4 to 8 year old ewes with lambs at foot from Coonalpyn, SA, also made $210.50. Proven breeders topped at a massive $242, which went to a line of 6 year old girls with Poll Dorset lambs at foot from Coolamon, NSW.

First cross ewes made up a smaller portion of cleared stock this week with 4,030 head sold throughout the week. A stand out line of ewe hoggets from Cohuna, VIC, made a massive $321.

These girls weighed in at 56 kgs and have been scanned in lamb to White Suffolk rams.

Another line of 21 to 22 month old ewes from Dubbo, NSW, who are SIL to White Suffolk rams also made impressive money at $292. Older first cross ewes also sold well, averaging $200 and topping at $210 for a line of 4 to 7 year old girls from Hamilton, VIC.

A total of 9,519 merino wether lambs were sold in this weeks sales, receiving an average of $100 and a top of $132. This top price went to a line of 41 kg store wethers from Parkes, NSW, who are carrying a 2.25” skin.

Another line of 44 kg lambs from Walgett, NSW, also made good money, selling for $188.50 and will be heading south to Heathcote, VIC.  A large line of older 12 to 14 month old, 40 kg, wool growers from Barcaldine, QLD, sold for $105. While a line of 2 to 5 year old merino wethers from White Hills, TAS, weighing 46 kgs sold for $90.
