Intercollegiate meat judging competition gets support

Meat-judgingWAFarmers will continue to support the Intercollegiate Meat Judging (ICMJ) Competition in 2017 through sponsorship of the Murdoch University team, as part of a three-year partnership.

Following the resounding success of the tertiary team at last year’s competition, during which Murdoch University placed third overall in addition to two other team awards plus individual accolades, 10 students will again compete on a national platform in Wagga Wagga in early July.

Beneficial for the participating students, universities and the wider red meat and pork industries, the competition encourages students to extend their careers in the processing, marketing, lot-feeding, retail, veterinary and research and development sectors of the industry.

WAFarmers Chief Executive Officer Stephen Brown said the organisation was thrilled to continue to sponsor the Murdoch University ICMJ team in 2017.

“The competition opens up opportunities for students to gain significant industry exposure, broaden their understandings of the meat sector, and gain invaluable opportunities for networking,” he said.

“We are aware that many of the students who participated last year have taken up significant leadership roles and continued to develop their skills since competing, and we are proud to be part of such an important process that will benefit the red meat industry in the long term.
