A new Australian Angus record was set for a female sale when Wattletop Angus dispersed 260 lots for a total clearance to average $8494.
The first stage dispersal, held on-property at Guyra, NSW, topped at $38,000 twice.
Coolie Angus was the strongest buyer on the day securing 14 females for an average of $16,857. They purchased six of the donor potential lots including K72, a G188 daughter, for $30,000 as well as lot 55, another G188 daughter K107 for $31,000.
Long term bull clients Wirrabilla Farms, from Walcha, purchased 30 females including H191, a Wattletop 458N E111 daughter, for $12,000.
Other local studs were active including Roger Flower from Bridgewater Angus, Black Mountain, securing 21 females for an average of $7,714, and Nicholas Morgan from Glenmorgan Angus, Llangothlin, with 19 for an average of $8,000.
Auctionsplus played a big role in the successful clearance of the sale bidding on 255 of the 260 lots with 36 females purchased with females heading into Queensland as far north as Dingo and Blackall.
“It was exciting for us that the mother and daughters of one of the best bulls we have bred Wattletop Franklin G188 sold so strongly highlighting his maternal power,” stud principal Loch Rogers said.
“His mother E295 sold for $38,000 to Spry’s Angus and his daughter J464 equalled the top price of $38,000 selling to Bannaby Angus.
“We are ecstatic with the results and the sale far exceeded our expectations.
“It is a great time to be selling females and it was great to be rewarded for 35 years of dedication to breeding cattle that are structurally sound, fertile with a focus on carcase quality.
“We have been seeing commercial cattle with high carcase merit fetching a premium in the current market and I believe long term, producers that invest in quality genetics will always demand a premium.”
