First cross ewes again sold well on AuctionsPlus with the top priced line making $297.
The two-year-olds were SIL to Poll Dorset rams and were from Wellington, NSW.
Sheep numbers were on the rise this week totaling 55,210 head, an increase of 15,473 from last week. New season suckers also hit the market, but there are still heavy lines of 2016 drop lambs being offered on the box – so processors keep your eyes peeled! The clearance rate for sheep this week was 77%.
From the south, a line of first cross ewe lambs made $292 and are SIL to Southdown and Charollais cross rams. These girls are vendor bred and are located in Violet Town, VIC. Well done to the vendors on such a great result!
First cross ewes and lambs topped this week’s market with a line aged 20-21-months from Manildra, NSW making $321. The ewes are unjoined and ready to join to the ram of choice along with sappy 15kg lambs at foot.
First cross 5-7-year-old proven breeders with a small percentage of composite ewes made $286 from Euroa, VIC. These ewes are ready to join and also have solid 17kg Poll Dorset and White Suffolk lambs at foot.
The top line of Merino ewes made $226, SIL to Border Leicester rams, aged 20-22-months and hailed from Collarenebri, NSW.
Merino ewes and lambs also presenting well with a top line of 2-year-old ewes making $261. These ewes are from Jerilderie, NSW and have 22kg Poll Dorset lambs at foot.
This week several lines of 2017 lambs were listed on the box with high prices seen across the board. A top line of March drop, Poll Dorset/Merino suckers that weigh 25.4kg live made $126.50 or 498c/kg live.
These suckers are located in Cootamundra, NSW. A lighter draft from the same vendor weighing 19kg live made $111.50 or 587c/kg live. Another line of 33.2kg January drop suckers from Stuart Town, NSW made $126 or 380c/kg live.
2016 Store Lamb Breakdown:
34kg to 36kg made $115 to $126.50 to average $121 or 338c/kg live
37kg to 38kg made $110 to $137.50 to average $126 or 400c/kg
Slaughter lambs this week also presented well, with a standout line of White Suffolk cross lambs, weighing 55.3kg live making $178 or 684.4c/kg dressed (including skin).
These lambs are located in Longford, TAS. Another standout line of slaughter lambs hailed from Nile, TAS. These September 2016 drop line of Composite lambs weigh 48.9kg live and made $151 or 686.3c/kg dressed (including skin).
Another great week for the Tasmanian Sheep Sale with a total of 2,231 head listed.
Merino wether lambs averaged out at $107 this week with the top price reaching $129.50 for a line from Elmhurst, VIC. The June/July 2016 drop weigh 40.5kg live and could be retained as woolgrowers or taken through to slaughter lambs.
A July/August 2016 drop line of Merino lambs from Keith, SA made $122. These lambs weigh 38.2kg live and are coming across the border into VIC to enjoy the cooler months ahead.
A large line of 1,840 Dohne wether lambs split over four lots made $118.
These wethers are July/August 2016 drop and weigh 39.4kg live and are straight off the shears. Ideal to go ahead onto feed, for wool production or meat. Well done to the vendor.
