Thousand Guineas voted best overall steak

Shorthorn-beefRenowned Brisbane dining venue, The Regatta Hotel, has again run its annual beef tasting competition, the Regatta Hotel Beef Off, as a build up to the EKKA festivities in Brisbane.

The Beef Off competition involves a blind taste testing of branded Sirloin steak supplied from 5 of Australia’s leading beef processors. Sirloins are prepared by the professional team at The Regatta, led by Executive Chef, Simon Street.

Patrons purchased a ticket for the entertaining event and were given the opportunity to enjoy a “blind” sample of beef from the 5 brands, with scores awarded for Tenderness, Juiciness, Flavour and Overall Liking. This year, 170 consumers formed the independent judging panel for the prestigious competition, voting on each sample as they tasted them.

JBS Australia entered their Thousand Guineas Shorthorn beef brand in its inaugural debut in the event.

JBS Australia Business Development Manager, Denis Conroy said that, “JBS wanted to test the Thousand Guineas brand against some of the best Angus brands in the country. To be able to do it through a blind taste testing, with a large group of 170 consumers was a fantastic opportunity. Consumer satisfaction is what we are all about.”

Along with some very favourable feedback for the brand from diners; with flavour, juiciness and overall liking amongst the key responses, Thousand Guineas was voted the best overall steak on the night, a significant achievement for the brand.

“The win was most satisfying for us, given the independent nature of the judging. We were really gratified by the feedback the brand received from impartial patrons who were extremely impressed by the juiciness and flavour of the product and the overall liking of the beef,” Denis Conroy said. “It is great to be able to be a part of a competition this like; to get feedback directly from such a large group of consumers, it really tells us a lot about where the brand is positioned. The Regatta team have done a tremendous job with this event.”
