Wagga maintained its position as the largest selling centre for sheep in both the state and the country, reporting a throughput of 1.7 million head.
The number of sheep consigned in NSW in 2016-17 was 8.4 million head.
Second and third positions switched from the 2015-16 financial year, with Dubbo saleyard taking second position, consigning 1.4 million cattle in 2016-17 and CWLX Forbes ranking third, yarding 1.4 million head.
Despite only opening in August 2016, numbers at SELX Yass saleyard were the fourth largest in the state, with 693,594 head yarded for the duration of the year.
Previously ranking fourth, Corowa placed fifth in 2016-17, with 616,971 head consigned.
The remainder of the top ten are as follows;
- Griffith – sixth – 515,165 head, not recorded in previous years
- CTLX Carcoar – seventh – 485,841 head, down from 5th position after the inclusion of SELX Yass and Griffith sale yards
- Cowra – eighth – 339,021 head, down from 6th position
- Tamworth – ninth – 211,767 head, remaining firm in 9th position
- Guyra – tenth – 177, 301 head, ranking down from 8th position in the previous financial year
