The same vendor also had similar line of 6 year old cows which made the same money and all lines offered by this vendor were EU accredited.
Cattle numbers remained relatively steady this week with a total consignment of 9,423 head.
Numbers out of Queensland declined by more than half off the back of continued rain across large areas of the state, making up just 11% of nationwide listings.
However, just over a quarter of this week’s listings sold at auction will find a new home in the sunshine state. Victoria also showed a similar trend, with buyer demand outstripping the local offering.
Buyers from both states looked to a large New South Wales offering to meet demand.
Despite the absence of the fortnightly weaner and yearling sales this week, steer yardings lifted to 3,745 head, with the bulk of these listings coming out of NSW.
While light weight steers made up the largest share of yardings, this week saw an increase in trade weight steers hitting the market.
Unjoined heifer numbers were also strong with 2,320 head listed, while joined female numbers constituted 2,259 head.
Steer and heifer prices saw a consistent increased across all weight categories alongside this lift in numbers.
Cow and calf numbers were down this week with just 580 head, boosted by large listings out of South Australia.
Further north, a line of 2 to 3 year old Angus and Angus Cross cows joined to Angus bulls, with 177kg Angus calves at foot returned $2,050.
Demand for joined heifers was subdued this week, recording a $1,393 average for a $1,600 top.
This top price line, which were sold in the new Mid-Week Cattle Sale (every Wednesday at 10am), are aged 18 to 19 months, have been PTIC to Angus bulls and hail from Harden, NSW.
The same vendor sold a further three lines of PTIC heifers which all returned $1,550. In other breeds, a line of 17 to 20 month, Santa Gertrudis/Hereford cross heifers who have been PTIC to Angus bulls from Tingha, NSW sold for $1,500.
Joined cows averaged $1,246 and sold to $2,150 top for a line of 2 to 4 year old Red Angus cows, PTIC to Red Angus from Elliot, TAS.
On the mainland, a line of 3 year old Angus cows, PTIC to Angus bulls from Bathurst, NSW sold for $1,545. While a line of 5 to 8 year old Angus proven breeders, PTIC to Angus from Bingara, NSW sold well making $1,450.
