Angus sire raises money for cancer research

Reiland-Macquarie

The auction of young sire Reiland Macquarie M519 on April 18 will benefit prostrate cancer research.

Wagga Wagga branch of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia will benefit from the proceeds of a young bull to be sold at the Reiland Angus sale this week.

The 20-month-old bull, Reiland Macquarie M519, will be offered as Lot 10 in the stud’s autumn bull sale on Wednesday, April 18, at Killimicat Station, Tumut.

Reiland principals, the Lucas family, are generously donating 20 per cent of the bull’s price, in recognition of the passing of family member, Roland Lucas, to prostate cancer in 2000.

Sired by Reiland Jerry 191, Macquarie ranks in the top five per cent on BREEDPLAN for 600 day weight and top one per cent for scrotal size.

Reiland Angus will offer 60 “industry relevant’’ bulls, providing buyers with the opportunity to assess the herd’s balanced selection program first hand.

Co-principal Mark Lucas said the sale bulls have been regularly assessed for growth, forage, type, soundness and temperament.

“Data recording on all registered animals is exhaustive so buyers can operate on genetically superior bulls run in large contemporary groups,’’ Mr Lucas said.

“There are several star lots offering faultless performance data and with strong Angus breed character.’’

Mr Lucas said the family were advocates for men’s health awareness and urged men both over and under 50 to have a prostate cancer check-up.
