Numbers of PTIC females on AuctionsPlus were boosted heavily by the ‘Koolewong Angus’ Herd Disperal from Braidwood, NSW who offered 333 stud and commercial cows.
These females presented an exciting opportunity to secure proven genetics and buyers flocked – with purchasers located in NSW, VIC & SA.
Stud females averaged $1825 and sold to a top of $2270 for a line of 7 year old cows. Nationally, PTIC females were mixed in quality and averaged $1180.
The top price of $1750 achieved by commercial females also came from Koolewong Angus for a line of 48 cows, rising 4 years.
From Atherton, QLD, 82 mixed aged Brahman cows averaging 433kg sold for $740. From Bundarra, NSW, a line of 4 to 6 year old Speckle Park/Santa Gertrudis cows, PTIC to Minnamurra Speckle Park bulls sold for $1130.
Cows and calves presented in mixed quality and prices ranged from $780 to $1960, to average $1370. Rising three year old Angus cows from Everton, VIC, with 4 to 8 week old Angus CAF achieved the premium price. While from Blayney, NSW, 5-6 year old Angus cows with 118kg Angus CAF sold for $1400.
Just shy of 5000 head were on offer in the fortnightly Weaner & Yearling Sale. Danny & Andrew Wilkie, Objective Livestock Marketing, Goondiwindi, QLD, offered 855 head.
The vast majority of Andrew’s lots were sold locally which he found surprising. “It was difficult to gauge where the light store market would be following on from a softer market last week, both on AuctionsPlus and in saleyards in northern NSW and southern Queensland.
Dry conditions are prevailing along the NSW/QLD border but producers further north, who are experiencing a fairer season, seem to be willing to buy cattle at the current market rates.” In terms of Andrew’s clearance rates, he said conversations with vendors pre-auction is key.
“It’s so important that we utilise marketing channels and set realistic reserves that reflect what you’re prepared to take for your stock, particularly in a tough market”.
Top prices recorded by Danny & Andrew’s lots included 236kg Angus steers, 301c and Shorthorn steers weighing 251kg, 299c.
‘Bald Blair Pastoral’, Guyra, NSW, offered 174 EU accredited weaned heifers which sold to a top of $1190 for 8-10 month old heifers weighing 324kg.
In all, 10 bidders competed to secure these sought after females. From Coolah, NSW, a line of 54 F1 Wagyu weaned heifers weighing 319kg returned $1130/354c and were purchased from Ballan, VIC. ‘Furneaux Pastoral Company’, Caramut, VIC offered 360 PCAS certified weaned Angus steers.
A line of 127, weighing 299kg aged 9-10 months topped their offering, returning 335c. 71 feeder steers from Dublin, SA, aged 8 to 14 months and weighing 264kg made 265c.
Tasmanian Cattle sale offered 183 head over 12 lots and listings were dominated by weaners, the majority of which were purchased from NSW.
Murray Grey/Gelbvieh heifers from Mayberry, weighing 310kg returned 286c. Nine PTIC Angus cows from Liffey in the state’s north, aged 2 to 5 years, reached $1350.
Also from Liffey, 19 PTIC Angus cows aged 6-10 years were purchased for an average of $1155 from Southbrook, Queensland.
