Cow and calf units were in short supply, with only 400 head offered and prices ranging from $900 to $1350 and averaged $1,106.

These cows are 2.5 years of age and weigh 572kg with calves at foot sired by Santa bulls.
Joined females were in supply with 1,000 head offered. Clearance was limited for PTIC cows and prices ranged from $820 to $1,300, to average $1051.
‘CJ & JW Hall’, Cumnock, NSW, offered a line of PTIC Shorthorn Cows, aged 2.5 to 3 years that sold for $1,100 to a bidder out of Smithton, TAS.
A line of 16 PTIC stud Angus cows offered by ‘Trio Angus’, Cassilis, NSW, aged 3 to 8 years returned $1800. ‘PJ Park’, Lockington, VIC, offered 2 lot of station mated heifers.
One lot of 2 year old Murray Grey Heifers, weighing 527kg sold for $1,200 and similarly a lot of 2 year old Angus Heifers, weighing 523kg sold for $1,300, both lines running back to Merridale Angus Bulls.
A line of unjoined Limousin heifers and calves A/c ‘DG, GM & R Warden’ from Loomberah, NSW sold for $900. These heifers are 2 years of age, weigh 390kg with calves at foot sired by Woonooka and Farrer Angus bulls.
The increase in weaner numbers contributed to a slide in clearance rates as buyers had the benefit of increased supply. ‘Acland Pastoral Company’, Oakey, QLD, offered a total of 1,284 weaners across 12 lots.
A line of Angus steers aged 7-12 months and weighing 298kg sold for 285 c/kg LWT or $849.50/hd. A line of Santa Gertrudis heifers aged 7-12 months and weighing 183kg sold for 251 c/kg LWT or $460.16/head.
There was an increase in lots with 20 head or less, with 13 Charolais/Angus weaners selling for 262 c/kg LWT or $645/hd to travel 1,400km from Northern Tablelands to South West Victoria.
Also, 19 Angus Heifers selling for 208 c/kg LWT or $360/hd from N.W Slopes & Plains are to be trucked 1,300km to South East Victoria.
The general practice of drafting and offering cattle into even deck loads for maximum competition is being challenged as buyers make the most of compiling several small lot sizes.
