AACo surplus composite steer sale tops at 308c/kg

The Australian Agricultural Company Surplus Steer Sale was interfaced and was run in conjunction with the Longreach Saleyards and Elders.

A total of 5,196 Barkly Composites were offered over 55 lots, of which 40 attracted online activity and 17 lots were purchased by bidders online.

Steers weighing under 250kgs sold from 274c/kg to 300c/kg to average 286c/kg. Steers weighing 250 – 300kg sold from 282c/kg to 302c/kg to average 294c/kg.

The heaviest steers offered for the day weighed 300 – 350kgs and sold from 274c/kg to 308c/kg and averaged 289c/kg.

Two hundred registered bidders logged into the sale and 361 online bids were placed.

Joined and PTIC female numbers decreased significantly this week to total 1,519 head, down 1,326 on last.

PTIC heifers sold from $630 to $1,000 and averaged $837. While PTIC cows sold from $660 to $1,475 and averaged $1,002, down $40 on last week.

The top price was for two lines of Angus cows offered by ‘Lakala Pastoral’ Mumbannar, VIC. These cows are 6.5 years old, EU Accredited and are bred from Te Mania Angus bloodlines.

Listed in the same sale ‘Longford Angus’ Armidale, NSW offered 87 PTIC Angus heifers. These heifers are aged 18-19 months old and sold for $1,000.

Cow and calf units decreased by 544 head this week, to total 712 head, with decent listings coming out of Queensland. Prices ranged from $830 to $1,610 and averaged $1,052.

The top price went to a line of second calvers offered by ‘Elrazzi and Saliba’ from Crookwell, NSW. These cows are PTIC back to Hilltop Angus bulls, and have CAF averaging 153kgs.

A small line of Blonde De Aquitaine/Red Angus heifers and calves from Carboor, VIC made $1,260. The CAF are 3 – 5 weeks old and are sired by Hicks Red Angus Bulls.

6,051 head were listed in this weeks Weaner & Yearling sale. Buyers were confident with overall clearance rates improving to 88%.

Yearling and grown steers achieved 100%, while yearling and grown heifers achieved 89%. Numbers were boosted by 447 weaner steers and heifers offered by ‘Watermark Pastoral Company’ Dingo, QLD.

The same vendor also had 162 backgrounder heifers in the same sale. The heavier weaner steers in the offering, weighing 187kgs sold for 278c/kg or $520.

The heavier weaner heifers in the offering, weighing 171kgs sold for 204c/kg or $350. ‘Wongwibinda Pastoral Co’ from Wongwibinda, NSW offered 259 weaned Angus steers over three lots.

The heavier steers aged 5-7 months sold for 308c/kg or $620; they’re antibiotic free, grass-fed eligible and are bred from Doughboy Mountain Bulls.
