Angus cows and calves in tight supply to top at $2020

Angus cows and calves from Peterborough, Vic, made the top price of $2020.

Cows with calves at foot were once again in tight supply last week, with 376 head being offered and a 77% clearance being found on AuctionsPlus.

Prices ranged from $1,000 to $2020 to average $1451, up $311 on last week. From Peterborough, VIC, a line of Angus cows and calves made the top price of $2020.

The cows are 3-3.5 yrs old with 4-5 month old calves at foot, are bred from Banquet Angus blood and are heading to Hamilton, VIC. From Walcha, NSW, a line of 33 angus cows and calves sold for $1550 to a buyer from Roma, QLD. The cows have Kilburnie, Ben Nevis and Speriby North blood and have 4-6 month old calves at foot.

PTIC cows and heifers sold from $800 to $1,700 to average $1079. Prices are firm on last week, and supply continues to outweigh demand for the time being.

All head sold were located in NSW and VIC, and all head will be remaining in these two states. From Trafalgar, VIC, a line of PTIC Angus heifers found the top price. The heifers are 2 years old, have been joined to a Te Mania bull and found a buyer in Warragul, VIC.

The top price out of NSW was $1,010, and went to a line of PTIC Angus cows from Cooma, NSW. The cows are 6-8 years old, have been bred from Hazeldean blood, are joined to an Angus bull and will be remaining in Cooma.

Light steers under 200kgs sold from 256c to 320c, to average 290c. Demand for the lighter category has risen on last week, with 6 lots selling compared to last weeks 1.

The top price went a line of angus weaner steers from Tenterfield, NSW. The steers hit the scales at 194kgs, are 8-10 months old and are on their way to Deer Vale, NSW.

Selling from 266c to 377c, steers weighing between 200-280kgs averaged 317c, up 13c on last week. From Killawarra, VIC, a line of angus weaner steers found the top price.

The weaner steers are 275kg, bred from Jade Park blood and are heading to Benalla, VIC. To Queensland, where prices were topped at 300c for a line of angus backgrounder steers from Millmerran. The steers are 6-9 months old and are making the long journey to Casterton, VIC.

Steers weighing from 280-330kgs sold from 271c 364c to average 322c, down 5c on last week. Highlights include: Shorthorn weaned steers from Goondiwindi, QLD weighing 310 kgs and selling for 310c to a buyer in Casterton, VIC and Angus weaned steers from Mangoplah, NSW weighing 313kgs and selling for 365c to a buyer in Korumburra, VIC.

Steers weighing 330kgs and over sold from 292c to 353c to average 327c, up 1 c on last week. The top price went to a line of Angus feeders steers from Orange, NSW. The steers weigh 341kgs, are 12-14 months old and are crossing the border to Burra, SA.

Lighter heifers under 200kgs returned from 224c to 275c, averaging 246c, down 27c. A line of Simmental weaned heifers from Warren, NSW found the top price. The heifers are 6-7 months old and are heading down to Shepparton, VIC.

Heifers weighing between 280-330kgs averaged 284c and sold from 240c to 330c. A line of Speckle Park NSM Future breeder heifers found the top price. The heifers are from Yeoval, NSW, weigh 321kgs, are 10-12 months old and found a buyer in Casterton, VIC.

Heavier heifers weighing 330kgs and over averaged 295c, down 2c on last week and sold from 252c to 326c. The heavier heifers were highlighted by 48 Angus heifers from Bingara, NSW. The heifers are 472kgs, 11-12 months old and will also be heading across the border to Drouin East, VIC.
