Prices increased for first cross ewes as they sold between $215 and $446 to average $362, up $4 from last week.
The top price broke online records for the highest selling ewe in AuctionsPlus’ history.
The record-breaking lot was offered by ‘Riverina Irrigation & Property’ from Deniliquin NSW.
The 81 SIL BL/Merino ewes (pictured) are 13-15 months old, weigh 66kgs, have a 2-2.5” skin on their back and will travel to Benalla, VIC.
The top price was closely followed by a line of SIL BL/Merino ewes from Cowra, NSW, which sold for $443. The ewes are 2-3 months SIL to White Suffolk rams, are 1.5-2 years old and weigh 68kgs.
Merino ewe lambs sold between $112 and $245 to average $210, back $12 on last week. The top price went to a line of 57 Merino ewe lambs, offered by ‘KM & LE Swain’ from Burrumbuttock, NSW.
The future breeders with Genanegie blood are Apr-May 19’ drop, weigh 59kgs and have a 1.5-3” skin on their backs. From Lameroo, SA, a line of 235 future breeder Merino ewe lambs sold for $239. The lambs weigh 48kgs, are Apr-Jun 19’ drop, have a 1” skin on their backs and will cross the border to Stawell, in S.W. Victoria.
Merino ewe hoggets followed the same price trend as the lambs with the average price easing $11 to $211 and selling between $112 and $280.
From Cooma, NSW, a line of 50 NSM Merino ewe hoggets topped the category. Vendors ‘M & J Pendergast’ offered the Cottage Park born and bred hoggets which weigh 65kgs, are 19-20 months old and have a 2-2.5” skin.
Prices soared for young Merino breeders (2-4 years) as they sold between $185 and $348, averaging $274, up $51 from last week.
The top price was achieved by a run of Poll Merino SIL ewes, offered by ‘Gordan Welsh Pty Ltd’ from Warren, NSW.
The Kerin Poll blood ewes are 3-4 years old, weigh 62kgs and will travel south to Gundaroo in the Monaro district. From down in Willaura, VIC, 3 year old, 59kgs, SIL Merino ewes sold for $328. The “Edgarely” Merino ewes are 2-3 months SIL to Poll Dorset rams and will remain in Victoria.
Proven Merino breeders (4+ years) were keenly sought after, illustrated by their 80% clearance rate. Prices ranged between $170 and $311 to average $251, up $4 from last week. A/c ‘R & L & J Hain’ from Cooma, NSW, offered the top priced lot with their line of 265 SIL Merino ewes.
The 5 year old Cottage Park Blood ewes weigh 74kgs and are 1.5 to 3 months SIL to Border Leicester rams. Further north in Tamworth, NSW, a line of 210 SIL Merino ewes sold for $294. The mixed age, Pooginook blood ewes weigh 57kgs, are SIL to White Suffolk rams and will travel to Cowra in Central Western NSW.
There were 23,709 Merino wether lambs offered this week; demand was high for the category, seeing the majority of the offering sell, achieving a 92% clearance rate. Prices were firm on last week as they averaged $155 and sold between $94 and $206.
The top price was attained by A/c ‘Martin Bros Pastroal’ from Cassilis, NSW with a line of 640 Merino wether lambs. The Severn Park & Mumblebone blood lambs are Jul-Aug 18’ drop, weigh 53kgs and will cross the border to Brooklyn, VIC. Also travelling to Brooklyn, are a line of 480 Merino wether lambs, 44kgs, Aug-Sept 19’ drop, from Holbrook, VIC, which sold for $173.
The reduced offering of 6,317 Merino wethers saw an increase in prices by $6 to average $166, selling between $134 and $188. The top price was achieved by a run of 830 wether lambs, split across two lots of 415, offered by A/c ‘Birrark Farming’ from Condobolin, NSW.
The Wealla blood wethers are 21-22 months old, weigh 51kgs and have a 2.5” skin on their back. Another notable highlight from Corowa, NSW, is a line of trade wethers, 34-35 months old, 44kgs, which sold for $176.
First cross ewe lamb prices jumped as they sold between $186 and $352, averaging $280, up $14 on last week.
The top price was achieved by a line of 140 BL/Merino ewe lambs from Trundle, NSW. The Haddon Rig and Widdian Stud blood lambs that are 11-12 months old and weigh 53kgs were offered by A/c ‘GR & DE Wright.’ From nearby Nevertire, NSW, a line of NSM BL/Merino ewe lambs, 44kgs, May-Jun 19’ drop, sold for $314.
Western Australia offered 9,320 head in the commercial sales this week. As with the current market trend, majority of the lots sold will be travelling east as restocker demand continues to see eastern states look to the west to rebuild numbers. Merino ewe lambs sold between $200 and $230 to average $212, $16 dearer than last.
The top price was achieved by a line of 751 Merino ewe lambs from A/c ‘FO & PM House’ in Gnowangerup. The Barloo blood, future breeders are Jul-Aug 19’ drop, weigh 47kgs and will travel across the Nullabor to Naracoorte, SA. SIL Merino ewe prices eased $17 this week as they ranged between $230 and $312 to average $269. From Merridan, 3 year old, 73kgs, SIL Merino ewes sold for $312 and are heading east to Monteagle, NSW.
Down in Tasmania, the 1,703 head offered all sold, with the sale achieving a 100% clearance rate.
Ewe lambs sold between $180 and $186 with the top price going to a line of 1st X BL/Merino ewe lambs from Tingal. The Aug-Oct 19’ drop lambs weigh 41kgs are travelling to the mainland, secured by a buyer in Ballarat, VIC. Wethers sold between $134 and $182 to average $154. The highest priced lot went to a line of Texel trade wether lambs from Quoiba in NW TAS. The lambs weigh 52kgs, are Aug-Sept 19’ drop and will remain in TAS.
Store lamb numbers decreased this week with 8,840 offered, 1,521 head less than last. Prices, however, increased as they ranged between 353c and 601c. Here are some of the highlights below:
