The Great Victorian On Farm Red Angus Challenge will be held in 2020, giving producers a snapshots of herds in their own environment.
The judge will be Mark Llewellyn from the Jillangolo Stud in South Australia for the event on October 28-November 1.
“Mark and his family have a long association with Red Angus and is very familiar with cattle run under all conditions, and will do an excellent job across what we hope to be a large run of cattle running in variable conditions across the state,” Kevin Heggen of
Hedley Range Red Angus said.
“We are certainly looking for people to enter who may not have considered or have been too shy to put cattle into a show type environment.
“We are also looking forward to hearing where your cattle go after they leave your place.
“We plan to have the results and presentations at our 50th Year celebrations hopefully held prior to years end, the Covid restrictions may have some bearing on this, but that is our intent.”
Entrants need to have their cattle yarded for visitors to inspect.
“We are also introducing two, new concepts this time around. If you are interested in following the judging group around your part of the state, we plan to issue an itinerary of where we will be on each day and at what time,” Kevin said.
“We welcome you to tag along and take advantage of this opportunity. And for the first time, if you are breeding Red Angus composite cattle, we would love tosee them as well. So we have included a pen especially for them this time around, so here’s yourchance to show us your take on the commercial sector.”
