Selling for $86 above reserve, a line of 156 White Dorper 21-23-month-old-ewes from Tottenham, NSW, weighing 79kg lwt, SIL to White Dorper rams returned the top price for the category at $406/head.

Crossbred lamb numbers eased last week, with 3,929 head offered – down 31% on last week.

The breeding ewe market was impacted by selective buying, with mixed clearance rates as prices for all bar SIL Composite/other breed ewes increased. SIL Merino ewes registered the largest offering across Tuesday’s sales, with 8,494 head offered. At the immediate closure of the auctions, clearance rates were only at 15%, with prices averaging $217/head – up $10. From Tarago, NSW, a line of 345 rising two-year-old ewes, weighing 51kg lwt SIL to Poll Merino rams returned $224/head.

SIL first cross ewes listings increased on last week, with 4,465 head offered – up 27%. With a subdued 16% clearance rate at the immediate close of sales, the category averaged $162/head – up $7. A line of 90 Border Leicester/Merino four-year-old ewes from St Helen Plains, Victoria, weighing 75kg lwt returned $250/head.

Ewe and lamb listings for the week saw a total of 1,326 head offered, up 38% on last week. Merino ewe and lamb lines made up most of the offering, with the 805 head averaging $296/head – up $56 on last week. Buyers remained selective, resulting in a 34% clearance rate at the immediate close of sale.
