Kevin Beal elected as president of Australian Limousin Breeders Society

Topics such as breed promotion, the website, ILR online/Breed Logic, the Strategic Plan, the Southern Multi-Breed project, Breed Plan, member opportunities, CN30, DNA testing, Code of Conduct, communication, Youth, APG’s, member workshops were discussed at the Limousin Australia AGM on May 26.

The ALBS would like to take the opportunity to thank Invercauld house of their hospitality over the weekend, guest speaker Mark Christian from ABRI and Lindsey View Limousins for allowing those who were in Lismore the opportunity to pay a visit to your property.

The 2024 Board of Directors are:

“We would also like to say a huge thankyou to Chris Meade who is retiring for the national board. Chris worked diligently in his role as president, and we thank him for all he has done for the breed,” Kevin Beal said.

“While looking forward to my new role I find it a little challenging but exciting as well and with a committed and passionate team to work with we all look forward to working with and for members to lift the profile of Limousin.

The ALBS executive consists of:

“We have a full contingent of Board members this year, the first time for several years with 2 new members,” Mr Beal said.

“Garry Hedger is well known to all members who together with his wife Karen have been long time breeders of quality Limousin cattle and Garry a dedicated supporter and Chair of the National Show and Sale takes on the portfolio of Rules and Regulations. NSW is his region.

“John Mellino has a background in Business and been a Limousin breeder for 15 years. John’s portfolio is Youth and Breed Promotion, and his region is also Youth. The previous Board felt that Youth development was so important it needed a special focus and support. John’s Region is Victoria.

“Lyn Ralph known to all as our Treasurer for the past couple of years and having done an outstanding job has once again taken on that challenging role and the Communications portfolio. Lyn’s region is New Zealand.

“Peter Grant has been on the Board for a number of years, playing a key role as a member of the executive and will work with Garry on Rules and Regulations. Peter’s region is Queensland.

“Mike Donaghy will be known to many for his role in supporting Regions with funding for their 50th Anniversary Celebrations. He takes on the Role of Breed Promotion also working with John. His Region is WA.

“Phoebe Eckerman known as a member that came up through the Youth program will assist John in the Youth portfolio as well as social media. Phoebe’s region is SA.

“My role while working with all Board members will also be assisting Lyn with that all important role of communication.

“Following on from the AGM the Board met for the first-time face to face for an extended and productive meeting that included an induction and opportunity for the Board to get to know one another.

The Board looks forward to a positive and productive year and encourages feedback and contact from members with ideas or concerns that will help lift the profile of Limousin.

“Finally, it would be remiss of me to not acknowledge outgoing Board member and President Chris Meade for his enthusiasm, passion, time and the tireless energy he has put into his role and the Limousin breed.

“While some difficult and at times controversial decisions had to be made, the foundations have been laid to ensure the ongoing viability and future success of our Society. We wish both him and Marilyn the very best and hope they now have some extra time to enjoy the things they value most.”
