Breed leading genetics combines with performance at Yavenvale’s sale

Yavenvale Unbelievable U480 (AI) (PP) is an exciting son of Matariki Nautical to be offered at the Yavenvale 26th on-property sale on February 19.

Commercial cattle producers seeking cutting edge genetics, phenotype and performance will have one of the biggest offerings of whiteface bulls in the country to choose from at the Yavenvale Poll Herefords 26th on-property bull sale on February 19.

Hosted by James and Nicki Pearce and Pat Pearce, the Yavenvale sale will be held on-farm at Adelong and interfaced with AuctionsPlus from 1pm.

Featuring 144 spring and autumn drop bulls, the sale will be the biggest single vendor whiteface bull sale in the nation this autumn selling season.

Co-principal James Pearce said bulls to suit both heifer and cow joinings with breed leading estimated breeding values (EBVs) and indexes are catalogued.

“This year’s sale bulls are sound, functional, commercially relevant sires with natural thickness and doing ability,” Mr Pearce said.

“As we continue our mission to find the best genetics, the 2025 sale team includes new sire lines from both here and across the globe.

“We aim to be breed leaders by providing cutting edge genetics to advance the beef industry.”

This year’s draft includes the first sons to sell in Australia of New Zealand sires Matariki Nautical and Limehills Stellar, along with Australian sire Morganvale Rookie.

Mr Pearce said the best average intramuscular fat EBV of +1.6 per cent of the sale draft was well above breed average of +0.9 per cent while the highest average eye muscle area of +5.6sqcm (breed average +4.4sqcm) combined with more visual muscle than ever.

“Of the sale team, at least 127 bulls are homozygous polled – the most available at a Hereford on-property sale this year,” he said.

“Our lowest average birthweight EBV of +3.4kg is below breed average and 99 per cent of the catalogue has a birth EBV less than 10 per cent of their 400-day growth – real curve benders to increase profitability.

“All sale bulls have been independently assessed for fertility and structural soundness, temperament, and are up to date with their health treatments and have passed a semen test. Yavenvale bulls are renowned for their longevity.”

The MSA (Meat Standards Australia) Production BREEDPLAN Index for the Yavenvale sale bulls is +$177 compared to the breed average of +$137. This was quantified by a recent consignment of Yavenvale blood steers processing with a top MSA Index of 65.53 and averaging 61.15 when the average industry MSA Index is 57.

Bull inspections are from 10am on sale day or Wednesday, February 5 from 9am-6pm during the Stock and Land Beef Week Field Days. Videos of each bull are available at www.yavenvale.com.au
